Creating an Introduction Help Video
In this post, we'll guide you through the process of adding an introduction video to your application or website. These videos serve as an excellent means to provide new users with a solid starting point when they first land on your site, and they also serve as a valuable tool to reacquaint experienced users with features they might not have explored yet. For a visual demonstration, check out the video linked here.
To begin, you'll first need to create the video content that effectively introduces or informs your users. Once the video is ready, you'll need to store it on a publicly accessible URL. While our example uses Vimeo, you can also use platforms like YouTube. For added security, you might consider linking to a video hosted on your company's SharePoint.
After your video is prepared, the next step involves crafting an image that will serve as your action field. This image will be what users encounter on their dashboard or template. It should offer a friendly welcome and prompt users to click for assistance, as shown below.
With the image in hand, you can proceed to create the action field. Ensure that the action field includes an image and not text or an icon. Select the option for opening a URL (we recommend choosing the "open URL in a new tab" to prevent users from navigating away from their current page). You can then upload the previously crafted image to the field.
Now, your setup is ready to be incorporated into a dashboard on a homepage, a report, or even within a form template. The example below showcases a dashboard, often the initial interface users encounter upon entering a site.
As evident from the example above, it's beneficial to accompany the introduction video with a button that links to your website or other support-related materials, contributing to an enriched user experience.
