Format Change for a Date Field
In this quick post, I will be showing you how users can change the format in which the date field is displayed in an App record. For a video on how to do this please click here
The format set when viewing record is by default set to match the language of the browser the site is being accessed from. Therefore, dates are displayed in the same format as they would in other websites. For instance, a format of MM-DD-YYYY means that the default language in the browser is set to be English from the USA.
However, it is likely that the user requires the date format to be displayed as DD-MM-YYYY like the format which is commonly used in the United Kingdom or many other countries around the world. So, just below there is a link to a video showing how this can be modified for the benefit and purpose of the user.
Briefly explained. The user should head to browser settings via the ellipse (...) at the top right corner of the screen on their browser (Not softools), access the settings options near the bottom and press the Languages tab halfway through the settings options available. Once the user has reached this point, what is likely to be observed is a section with the headline "Preferred Languages". The language (and country) which is at the top will be the default language and therefore the one which matches the Softools date field format. At this stage if the user wishes to change the language, either add the new language by pressing the "Add Language" button or if the desired language already exists, then simply press the ellipse (...) option next to the desired language and select "Move to the top" until the top is reached.
It is worth mentioning, that this guide and example in the video below are for Edge, each browser has a different outline and the procedure for this change might vary, although it should be a similar process to the one just explained.
This can be of great help for users who may want to produce records in different formats depending on the geographical location.
