The “Aw, Snap!" error occurs when a web page doesn't display correctly. In most cases, you can simply reload the page to dismiss the error. If you keep getting the error, try the suggestions below.
Desktop
- Check your antivirus and firewall applications: Some antivirus or firewall applications may prevent Google Chrome from working properly. To test if this is happening to you, try these steps:
- Quit Chrome.
- Turn off any antivirus or firewall applications temporarily.
- Open Chrome again. If you don't see "Aw Snap!", the applications may be interfering with or blocking Chrome.
- In the applications' settings, add an exception for Google Chrome. (This process may vary per application.)
- Double-check that the applications are up to date.
- Turn the applications back on.
- Check your extensions: Try disabling your extensions one by one to see if a particular extension is causing the problem. Here’s how:
- In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu .
- Select More tools > Extensions.
- For each extension that you want to test, untick "Enabled".
- Refresh the web page showing "Aw Snap"! to see if the error still appears.
- Check for malware: There may be a program installed on your computer that's interfering with Chrome. Check for malware and other programs that you don't remember installing.
- Create a new user profile: If Chrome continues to display the "Aw, Snap"! message, your user profile may be corrupted. To create a new user profile, follow these steps:
- Close Chrome.
- Find the "Default" folder. It's usually located in the following locations:
- Windows XP:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
- Windows Vista/7/8:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
- Mac OX:
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default
- Linux:
~/.config/google-chrome/Default
- Windows XP:
- Rename the folder as "Old Default". Your old user profile will be saved in this folder, but it'll no longer be active.
- Relaunch Chrome.
