The “Aw, Snap!" error occurs when a web page doesn't display correctly. In most cases, you can simply reload the page to dismiss the error. If you keep getting the error, try the suggestions below.
On Computer
1. Check your antivirus and firewall applications:
Some antivirus or firewall applications may prevent Google Chrome from working properly. To test if this is happening to you, try these steps:
- Quit Chrome.
- Turn off any antivirus or firewall applications temporarily.
- Open Chrome again. If you don't see "Aw Snap!", the applications may be interfering with or blocking Chrome.
- In the applications' settings, add an exception for Google Chrome. (This process may vary per application.)
- Double-check that the applications are up to date.
- Turn the applications back on.
2. Check your extensions:
Try disabling your extensions one by one to see if a particular extension is causing the problem. Here’s how:
- In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu
.
- Select More tools > Extensions.
- For each extension that you want to test, untick "Enabled".
- Refresh the web page showing "Aw Snap"! to see if the error still appears.
3. Check for malware:
There may be a program installed on your computer that's interfering with Chrome. Check for malware and other programs that you don't remember installing.
4. Create a new user profile:
If Chrome continues to display the "Aw, Snap"! message, your user profile may be corrupted.
To create a new user profile, follow these steps:
- Close Chrome.
- Find the "Default" folder. It's usually located in the following locations:
- Windows XP:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
- Windows Vista/7/8:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
- Mac OX:
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default
- Linux:
~/.config/google-chrome/Default
- Windows XP:
- Rename the folder as "Old Default". Your old user profile will be saved in this folder, but it'll no longer be active.
