Support article: Export a Template Report to PowerPoint
Overview
Template Reports use a Word document to define the layout, branding and Softools content of an export. When running a Template Report, Users can now choose to generate it as a Word document, a PDF, or a PowerPoint presentation.
PowerPoint export is useful for portfolio reviews, management updates and other reports presented as slides. Text recognised in the generated presentation can be selected and edited in PowerPoint.
For full instructions on creating a Template Report and using its keywords, see Export Template Reports.

Preparing the Word template
Create and upload a Word template using the usual Template Report process. Add your branding, headings, tables and Softools keywords where current data should appear. You do not need a separate PowerPoint template.
In this example, the first page contains a Pillar Summary Dashboard. Its Field keywords supply the headline figures and the values in the delivery and financial tables.
The next page provides a Compliance section. Alongside its summary values, Report keywords add the relevant Projects, Risks and Change Log when the export runs.
Design and test the Word template with the intended presentation in mind. A dense page may be harder to read when displayed as a slide.
Exporting to PowerPoint
- Open the App, Record or Homepage where the Template Report is available.
- Open the actions menu and select Export.
- Under Export Type, select Templated Report (Word Document as PowerPoint).
- Select the required Template Report.
- Optionally enter a filename, then confirm the export.
- When the Export Job completes, download the presentation from its notification or from Export Summaries.
The same Word template can also be exported using Templated Report (Word Document) or Templated Report (Word Document as PDF).
Reviewing the generated slides
Open the downloaded presentation in PowerPoint and check its content and layout. In this example, the Pillar Summary Dashboard becomes the opening slide, followed by slides for individual areas such as Compliance.
Review each slide at presentation size, particularly where a Word page contains a large table or several Reports.
Editing recognised text
Text that PowerPoint recognises in the generated presentation can be selected and edited. In the Compliance slide below, the £81,000 value in the Projects table has been selected as a text object.
Check any content you intend to change in PowerPoint before sharing the finished presentation.
