Opening .csv files in Excel with accented and unicode characters

Alternatively, follow these steps to ensure these characters are correctly formatted when opened in Excel:

Note: The order of steps may vary depending on your operating system and Excel version.

1. Start Excel:

   • On a Windows computer, open Excel and click File > New.

2. Import Data:

   • Click the Data tab.
   • Select From Text. Choose the .csv file you saved from Softools.

3. Text Import Wizard - Step 1:

   • In the wizard's first step, select the Delimited radio button to be Comma.
   • For File origin, choose 65001: Unicode (UTF-8).
   • For Data Type Select Based on entire dataset.

4. Complete the Import:

   • Click to complete click Load.
   • Excel will now display your .csv file, including all accented and Unicode characters, correctly.
